Teaming Up with TeamSmile for Healthy, Happy Kids
TeamSmile partnered with the Arizona Cardinals to deliver healthy smiles to hundreds of children in need at the Salvation Army Kroc Center in Phoenix (3/24).
Thanks to generous donations from Henry Schein, Colgate, and DentaQuest, along with dozens of volunteers from across the state, kids were able to receive dental screenings, oral health education, cleanings, sealants, restorative dentistry, extractions, and fluoride treatments. Over $85,000 worth of care and education was provided by 173 volunteers. Cardinals football players, cheerleaders, and even Big Red were on hand to show their support. Thanks to donations by Elevate Oral Care and GC America, TeamSmile has added silver diamine fluoride and SMART (silver modified atraumatic restorative treatment) to their list of services.
SDF expert and advocate, Dr. Jeanette MacLean provided free CE to volunteer dentists and treated patients at the event with this efficient and effective, minimally invasive treatment option for managing caries that shows great promise for improving access to care and public health. 86% of parents consented to have their children receive SDF, which was more than consented to restorative (80%) or extractions of baby teeth (65%).
