The Hall Technique
The Hall Technique is a minimally invasive method of placing a stainless steel crown (SSC) without the need for local anesthetic, sedation, or drilling. Originating in Scotland in the 1990’s, the technique is a common practice in the UK, and is finally gaining popularity in the US. Dr. MacLean has been a catalyst of the increased awareness and adoption in the US, frequently lecturing on the topic across North America, and wrote this timely article for Dentaltown magazine. Dr. MacLean noticed a tipping point in acceptance of Hall Technique that coincided with the global COVID-19 pandemic, since it is a non-aerosol procedure that does not require use of dental hand pieces (drills).
